Why do people have babies, but don't plan to raise them?
I know so many couples nowadays that are having planned children and just put them in daycare. They can't afford to quit or reduce their working hours. Some professional couples just won't even contemplate it.
Why have a kid if you just plan to let someone else raise them from birth til they hit school-age, then expect the teachers to do the rest? That's the reality when kids are in daycare for 8-9 hours of their waking hours each day pretty much from birth on. I know parents that get their kid up at 7, at daycare by 8:15, pickup at 5:15 and the baby is back in bed by 7:30. Seriously, people, that's not parenting time!
Poor kid is just a tax deduction, and the parents are in it just for the title and bragging rights.
My favorite excuses are,
"We can't afford if I stay home!" Nope, not when you want to eat out at Applebee's and Outback several times a week, plus have McD's for lunch each day, go to the movies every week and have new cars and TVs. Add that to the daycare bill each week and how much is REALLY saved?
"S/he learns so much in daycare!" This is fun to hear when the spouse is a teacher. YOU should be teaching and learning with your child!
"S/he needs to be in daycare to learn to socialize." Really? At 8 weeks? 9 months? That's BS. Kids need to learn manners, respect and values from their parents, not a babysitter. They need to know the people in their life. And the plus side to not being in daycare is the lack of every cold and flu virus circulating thru your house and family. Monthly.
I know it's not a popular view and probably sexist for some, but I'm a woman and I know that women CAN'T have it all when they're popping out babies. Using your uterus means it's NOT all about you. Seriously. Please don't expect everyone to pick up your slack because you're busy being a mom. YOU made your choice, you make the necessary adjustments. Maybe it means: re-evaluating your life. How important IS your job in the grand scheme of things?
Maybe your child should be first?
