Teen pregnancy, damn
Literally, this tragic story is very very close to home for me. Probably by tomorrow morning, it will be all over the national news.
Cops: Teens ended pregnancy with a baseball bat
and
Boyfriend hits girl with bat as part of a deal and boy's mom helps bury fetus, police say.

The circumstances for it to make national coverage are ample:
1. Macomb County has PLENTY of available abortion services, especially near Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, which is The Mall over there.
2. The sheer brutality. Was it desperation of not being able to afford an abortion without telling their parents? Were they afraid of being forced to keep the baby if one certain parent found out? Did the girl not realize she was pregnant until it was too late (past 12 weeks) and the procedure would cost more and be more to endure?
3. These are kids from a "nice" area...relatively affluent, educated, etc. Not "hicks."
4. Michigan doesn't have a set of laws covering this, so was it "murder" or "manslaughter"? Was it assault? Can they be charged with burying a body of an unviable fetus without permission?
5. Who will face more charges, the girl or the boy or parent who helped? Abortion is legal in Michigan, so can the girl be brought up on charges of aborting her pregnancy? The boy, though, could be charged with assaulting the girl with the bat, even though she OK'd it. The parent...WOW! There are a plethora of possibilities for Mom to face.

Not only is it awful to imagine a girl allowing herself to be beaten repeatedly, but the boy was WILLING to do it! You just know these kids are messed up in the head forever.
