"NO...-N-O-...NO! We are NOT attending the damn reception!"
I have been wanting to scream this to Rick's Mom, who keeps asking, despite knowing our answer.
The upcoming weekend is the wedding reception for Rick's younger cousin who eloped last March. Personally, I think it is VERY tacky to have a picnic-type reception (some of us were e-mailed a request to bring a dish!) when you don't have the common decency to notify your family that you GOT married until they receive the invite 2 months later! C'mon, how about even a mass e-mail?
This isn't about bringing family together to celebrate a new member, it's "we got married, now give us money." They are NOT registered ANYWHERE and Rick's aunt included a CASH IS APPRECIATED note in the invites. Let's see...he is 28, a State graduate and an ENGINEER! Niehter has been married before, neither has kids and they have lived together for 2 years.
It's not that we don't like Rick's cousin and his wife, WE DO, but we feel like if they can't make an effort to do anything for more than themselves, then they sure shouldn't expect a damn thing from others!
