MASHA'S GRADUATION AT PHILIPS ARENA
Wednesday, June 19 -- 7:30pm -- EVERYONE INVITED (doors open at 6:30pm)
Masha lost the use of her legs in a car accident in 1999. Soon after the accident, Masha decided that she would still walk across the stage at her high school graduation .. NO MATTER WHAT! Only her mom, her doctors, and a teacher knew her plans.
After years of practice, she was finally able to walk the 15 feet with her braces and a walker, and practiced the walk on her graduation stage the afternoon before the ceremony.
Later that day, school principal Jim Markham decided that he didn't want Masha to attempt the walk. Markham asked 11 Alive reporter Jennifer Leslie that if "she fell in front of four or five thousand people that night ... What was it going to be like for her in terms of stress and humiliation and things of that nature?"
Masha told The Bert Show that she wasn't at all concerned about falling, and even if she had, she wouldn't have been humiliated.
We have decided to take matters into our own hands and make Masha's walk happen. With help from Philips Arena, we are going to throw Masha her own ceremony ... and you're invited!
We want as many people as possible to come out to Philips Arena on Wednesday to support Masha as she walks to get her diploma.
Please join us -- and bring as many friends as you can find! Masha deserves this, and we want to make Wednesday, June 19 the greatest day of her life!
CAN YOU HELP WITH MASHA'S GRADUATION?
We need to make it a perfect night!
In order to make Masha's night GREAT, we need the help of our listeners ...
Of course, we want as many people as possible to come to Philips Arena on Wednesday, June 19 for her graduation ceremony. (Doors open at 6:30, ceremony starts at 7:30.)
Also -- We need people to be a part of Masha's ceremony. If you are a 2002 graduate of Berkmar High School, wear your cap and gown to Philips on Wednesday. We might ask you to be in the procession.
We need help with other stuff, too!
