Don't kid yourself believing their promises, the Catholic church is going to protect itself, first and foremost, but I am sure they will designate a few of their priests and bishops as "sacrificial lambs" to curtail deeper investigations and more "embarrassment," in regards to the many sexual abuse cases, especially involving children, that are breaking news each day.

The Catholic Church has always believed that they are above reproach and teaches their members to believe the same about themselves. I am not saying this out of ignorance or hatred, I was raised Catholic and went to catechism and church regularly. They teach that you ONLY learn about God and Jesus by going to church and catechism, not by reading the Bible, unless it is the Catholic Bible, which has been edited severely. Prayers are changed so members mention the Catholic Church BY NAME. Interpretations include the Catholic Church BY NAME. In catechism, sins were blamed on the person being Lutheran or Baptist.

In 2000, the Catholic Church released a paper that blatantly claimed other churches are defective because they do not recognize the primacy of the Pope. Non-Christian religions are supposedly at a "disadvantage regarding salvation."

This just backs up what we were taught in church: the priests and nuns always told us that only Catholics go to heaven. No matter how good anyone else may be, if they were not Catholic, they would be condemned to Purgatory, at best, but usually, Hell. My father was Lutheran and when a nun found out, she told us we HAD to make him convert, or "he would go to Hell."

I think the Catholic Church needs to realize and pursue correcting, NOT HIDING, their own defects and realize their own "disadvantage regarding salvation." If there is, in fact, eternal salvation, I seriously doubt that many Catholic priests, maybe all the way up to the Pope, will attain it.
